Weight loss in overweight cats
OBESITY MANAGEMENT is a complete dietetic food for cats formulated to reduce excess body weight. This food has a low energy level.
Feeding Duration:
Prior to prescribing, individual target weight should be determined. The energy allowance (kcal) per kg target bodyweight is based on the cat’s body condition score (BCS) (ie. 30 kcal for a BCS of 3.5 or 4.0 and 35 kcal for a BCS of 4.5 or 5.0). If the cat refuses to eat or loses weight too rapidly, there is a risk of hepatic lipidosis
Decreases the energy intake 50-70% compared to the same volume of a standard wet food
The high protein content (>110 g/1000 kcal ME) helps to reduce loss of muscle mass by 30%
Reduced starch level, lower post-prandial hyperglycæmia
Chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine help to maintain normal mobility in the highly stressed joints of obese pets.
Further information:
There are several benefits provided by a high protein content in hypocaloric diets :
1/ increased palatability,
2/ a decreased loss of muscle mass during the weight loss period.
Proteins have a lower energy availability than carbohydrates : for an equal metabolisable energy level, proteins provide 30% less net energy than carbohydrates
Recommended daily quantities (g/day):
Water should be available at all times
