Liver Disease
HEPATIC is a complete dietetic food for dogs for the support of liver function in the case of chronic liver insufficiency and for the reduction of copper in the liver. This dietetic food contains a moderate level of protein of high quality, a high level of essential fatty acids, a high level of highly digestible carbohydrates and a low level of copper.
Feeding Duration
Varies depending on the pathology and on the regenerative ability of the hepatic tissue. Lifetime feeding may be necessary in case of chronic disease. In order to reduce the postprandial hepatic charge, it is recommended to feed several small meals up to the recommended daily intake.
A low copper with increased zinc content minimises both copper accumulation in the hepatocytes and intracellular lesions caused by cholestasis.
The synergistic antioxidant complex slows hepatocyte degradation.
A limited sodium intake decreases portal hypertension and reduces extravascular water flow.
High energy provided from fat avoids excessive protein catabolism limitingt he risk of onset or the progression of hepatic encephalopathy.
Further information:
Highly digestible vegetable proteins (soy protein isolate) are better tolerated in dogs with hepatic encephalopathy.
The L-carnitine intake promotes liver fat catabolism and helps to meet the high energy needs of the liver.
Recommended daily quantities (g/day):
Water should be available at all times
