Congestive cardiac failure. Hypertension
CARDIAC is a complete dietetic food for dogs with chronic cardiac insufficiency formulated to help support heart function. This diet contains a low level of sodium and an increased potassium/sodium (K/Na) ratio.
- Hypertension
- Pregnancy
- Lactation
- Dogs in the growth
- Pancreatitis
- Hyperlipidaemia
The diet should be started as soon as the first signs of heart disease occur.Nutritional management will be continued for the dog’s lifetime.
Dogs with cardiac disease often show decreased appetite and weight loss. Due to its very high palatability and its high protein and energy concentration, Cardiac Canine is adapted for the maintenance of an optimal bodyweight.
Taurine and L-carnitine are essential for myocyte function and they also enhance heart contractility.
Sodium restriction reduces workload on the heart. Potassium and magnesium levels are adapted to optimum clinical levels.
Low sodium diets reduce the retention of water and sodium which are associated with cardiac disease. This significant restriction enables the veterinarian to choose a reasoned sodium supplement when required.
Pets with cardiac disease are more prone to oxidative stress. Free radicals are cytotoxic and have a negative inotropic effect. Polyphenols, thanks to their antioxidant properties, significantly minimise the deleterious effects of free radicals. Moreover, they have an antihypertensive action (Duarte 2001), by stimulating the endogenous production of nitric oxide (a local vasodilator).
Recommended daily quantities (g/day):
Water should be available at all times
| It is recommended to divide the daily intake into 2 meals. |
